Pacific Design Center Red Building, Phase III*

West Hollywood, California

Gruen Associates was the Executive Architect and Landscape Architect in collaboration with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects as the Design Architect for the final building of the Pacific Design Center (PDC). The Red Building (PDC Red) completes the master planned triad conceived more than 40 years’ ago with the iconic “Blue Whale” and the Pacific “Green” buildings at the West Hollywood showroom and office complex; both previously designed by Pelli, though the Blue Building was designed while he was a Design Partner at Gruen. The most dynamic of the three, the 405,000-SF Red Building, consists of two curved, sloping, state-of-the-art office towers connected by a bridge and a courtyard with palm trees atop seven levels of convenient parking for 1,460 vehicles. Construction for the fast-tracked, multi-awarded project started in April 2007, completed in June 2012 and received LEED Silver certification in 2014.
