West Los Angeles Civic Center
Los Angeles, California
Gruen Associates, in 2012, was asked to generate conceptual vision plans that study the redevelopment and repurposing of the West Los Angeles Civic Center. This study spanned six months and continues to be an evolving process. Three formal stakeholder presentations were held, which included meeting with local neighborhood representatives. This visioning proposal introduced six “Vision Plans” and completed the initial stage of study with three. Situated just west of the 405 Freeway along Santa Monica Boulevard, the visioning proposal studies the potential of the civic center as a future mixed-use development that serves as a celebratory gateway to West Los Angeles and provides the surrounding community with a vibrant pedestrian-friendly environment. The study was completed with a limited budget for a Council office.
