Tokio Marine HCC Los Angeles Headquarters

Encino, California
Gruen Associates provided tenant improvement and design services at Tokio Marine Insurance’s new LA headquarters space in Encino. Designers transformed the Cyber and Professional lines group’s space into a multi-functional and collaborative work environment. The entire space was re-designed to fit Tokio Marine’s new work strategy—hoteling/hot-desk setting—to provide flexibility and various levels of collaboration spaces. The space is designed with four neighborhoods—the Lobby, Lounge, East and West offices— with multiple conference rooms and open collaboration areas. Each neighborhood has its own hub with break counter areas and their own character and graphics that embodies the company’s philosophy.

The previous space was transformed into a multi-functional and collaborative, non-traditional environment through a minimalistic approach carried through each neighborhood. Brightness, clean lines and seamless areas open onto interconnected as well as separate spaces for individual, small group or large team-focused work activities. Furniture selections fit their respective neighborhoods and encourage all working styles for employee comfort, effectiveness and efficiency. The reinvigorated space gave the client a fresh start post-Pandemic—a new canvas to move forward with re-branding their company as a workforce in the future, and not in the past.

In the lobby, a greenery—moss art collage frames one of the company’s key phrases, “mind over risk” in the art work. The Los Angeles Skyline artwork was designed to represent Tokio Marine’s holistic presence, familiarity and relationship to various clients all over the region. Each of the conference rooms are named after historical music venues in Los Angeles—Hollywood Bowl, Whisky A Go-Go, Pantages and the Roxy! The different forms of placemaking helped to create a strong sense of uniqueness to inspire, engage, and connect!
