The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) selected Gruen Associates as the Executive Architect to join Design Architect Weiss/Manfredi for the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum project. Gruen Associates’ Landscape Architecture department will also partner with the design team on the landscape features of this unique 13-Acre site in the heart of the city. Working in collaboration with NHMLAC, the team also includes Exhibition Design firm, Kossmanndejong (KDJ). The team will work to revamp the existing Page Museum, expand it with a new addition, create a wholly new exhibition experience and re-imagine Hancock Park; all in support of the storied Los Angeles cultural/educational/research nexus of paleontological studies that is the La Brea Tar Pits. Weiss/Manfredi’s master plan vision for the redesign of the La Brea Tar Pits and the George C. Page Museum (built nearly 50 years ago) was selected from three finalists as part of the international competition helmed by NHMLAC in 2019. Gruen Associates and KDJ are the latest major firms added to the project.
