Capitol Area East End Complex*

Sacramento, California

Gruen Associates is the Architect of Record for the completed $242 Million, 1.73-million-SF, four-building campus. In partnership with Clark Construction, we delivered this Design-Build project to the state in 38 months, despite a complete reprogramming and space planning effort in the middle of construction due to a change in tenants (CDE HQ) and to secure the parking structure as a physical boundary. The complex includes four mid-rise buildings comprised of office space and below-grade parking, a free-standing parking structure for 1,500 vehicles with security features for the high-profile area, as well as incorporates16 commissioned art pieces valued at approximately $2.2 Million. Now primarily occupied by the Department of Health Services, the complex is designed to meet stringent indoor air quality and energy standards. The project, which has the largest installation of photovoltaic collectors of any state project at the time, is the state’s largest LEED Silver building.
