Gruen Associates Principal Associate Devon Barnes, AIA, LEED AP, recently presented the Tower Theatre project as part of the AIA|LA Re-Use LA series. The presentation highlighted key elements of the façade of the 1927 theater and its adaptive reuse into a high-tech flagship retail store. Devon discussed the investigative methods used to understand the historic building and reviewed several design and technical challenges encountered while bringing the structure up to current code, along with the hidden discoveries that influenced decisions throughout the multi-award-winning project. Devon was one of three panelists presenting adaptive reuse projects to an engaged audience of architectural peers at the AIA|LA + ACLA headquarters in the historic West Adams district.
