Gruen Associates prepared the San Fernando Valley East-West Transit Corridor Major Investment Study and Environmental Impact Report for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority. As part of this assignment, Gruen Associates prepared the conceptual design for the entire 14-mile Bus Rapid Transit Corridor, bike path, and pedestrian linkages (now called the Metro Orange Line). The project has won a 2012 Los Angeles Chapter of the Women in Transportation Seminar’s Innovative Transportation Solutions Award, a 2007 American Institute of Architects Transportation Award, 2006 California Transportation Foundation Tranny Award for Transit Excellence, 2003 Rail-Trail Design Recognition Award, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and ASLA, and 2000 APA Focused Issue Planning Award, Los Angeles Section. The first phase of the Metro Orange Line opened in October 2005 and phase two opened in June of 2012.
