Marina del Rey Gateway and Signage Master Plan

Los Angeles, California

The Gateway and Signage Master Plan for the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches & Harbors is a comprehensive vision for gateways, wayfinding signage and placemaking features for the community of Marina del Rey. Conceptual designs for two pocket parks identified as Fiji Gateway Park and Via Marina Gateway Park are proposed that will have highly-visible gateway elements and enhance the pedestrian experience for users entering into the Marina district. Improvements at both sites will include new park designs and gateway elements that will create dramatic and impactful landscape statements at the Marina’s major entries. These design elements will be sensitive to the wildlife habitat in the Marina, especially the adjacent Ballona Wetlands natural area. Plantings are to be drought-tolerant, non-invasive, California natives and other compatible plantings. Another goal of this project is to update and expand the wayfinding signage to clearly direct vehicles, pedestrians and boaters to Marina del Rey’s destinations and highlights.
