John Lobb

Beverly Hills, California

John Lobb is a luxury men’s boutique, offering bespoke Parisian footwear and accessories in Beverly Hills. Gruen Associates was the local Architect of Record for the design by French studio, Ciguë. The new 2,400-SF space combines three separate suites on two floors, necessitating new structural openings for a stair and an accessible lift. The design boldly meshes styles of the future with that of the past. The century-old Spanish Colonial building façade is penetrated by a geometric circular metal display window and a modern clean-lined oak entrance door. Once inside, an arcade of arch-topped niches, plastered-in-place walls and perimeter cantilevered shelving are a nod to Southern California Mission style architecture. A sci-fi inspired, vibrated stainless-steel “capsule” lined with walnut paneling and casework houses the brand’s John Lobb “By Request” services. Clients can design their own pair of custom shoes by browsing through drawers filled with leather samples, surface finish treatments, buckles, and soles. A one-of-a-kind travertine stair clad over a bent plate zig-zag steel stringer ushers VIP clientèle to the spacious light-filled lounge.
